Our Mission

The purpose of this non-profit organization is to promote and preserve the history of the Bessemer area.  Historical materials shall include any items pertaining to the history and the heritage of this area and said items will be shared and displayed in a museum setting.

About Us

The history of the Gogebic Range is so vast that in order to do justice to the heritage and culture of the early settlers, this web page focuses on the City of Bessemer and Bessemer Township.  On the Research Page, you will find links to our neighboring communities, Gogebic County and the Upper Peninsula Iron Range.

We believe that an understanding of the past changes lives and builds better communities.

Bessemer Area Historical Society is a non-profit  501 (C) (3) The organization is totally staffed, administered, organized, digitized and open to the public with only  volunteer workers.  It’s a big job and we enjoy doing it.
