Keep Bessemer's Past Alive

The above photo is Sophie Street, Bessemer Michigan, 1938

For the past several years our volunteers have been collecting materials that remember the culture of the immigrants who settled in Bessemer Township. Their farming, logging and mining brought the railroads which carried the fruits of their labors throughout Michigan and the United States. Their work created unprecedented growth and transformed the village among the bluffs  to the City of Bessemer within Bessemer Township and the County Seat of Gogebic County.

COME VISIT US - BECOME A MEMBER and tell a friend about us!

AND, take a walk, bike ride, snowshoe or X country ski on the Iron Belle trail just outside our doors behind City Hall.  Enjoy Bessemer heritage with an outside view! The trail follows the old railroad  which crosses our bridges and includes interpretive signs along the way which describe our rich heritage,  the “jungles” location, mining and logging operations and much more.
